Brazos Valley Tennis Association
USPTA Junior Gran Prix Circuit Information
Welcome to the 2011/2012 Brazos Valley Tennis Association Junior Gran Prix Circuit. We hope that you will enjoy playing in our monthly tournaments and that the competition will help you improve your game.
Eligibility and Age Requirements
· Players qualifying for the USTA Champs level prior to August 1, 2012 are not eligible to play at the 2012 Gran Prix state championships.
· Players who qualify for USTA Champs on August 1, 2012 or later are eligible to play in the 2012 Gran Prix state championships.
· Players who want to be eligible to play in the Gran Prix state championships should be aware of the October 1, 2012 Birthday cutoff date. These players can either play in their respective age division until they age up or they can play up at any time they so choose. This decision should be made by the player and parent.
- For example, if a player’s 11th, 13th, or 15th Birthday falls on or before October 1, 2012, then that player’s points must be earned in the appropriate higher age division to qualify to play in the Gran Prix state championships. You may play in your current age division but the points you earn will not count toward your eligibility to play in the Gran Prix state championships if you age up before the tournament.
· Players will be invited to play on the team based on total points earned after the July 2012 tournament.
· Because the 18 division has been dropped from the Gran Prix state championships, beginning with the October 2011 Gran Prix 2-12 tournament, the B18 and G18 divisions are open divisions. Champ and super champ players from any age division can participate in this open division to gain additional match-play experience.
Point System
· Players are awarded 2 points for each match won in the main draw.
· Players are awarded 1 point for each match won in the consolation draw.
· Players are awarded 1 point for playing in the tournament.
· Players are penalized -1 point for failure to withdraw without notifying the tournament director in time to notify their opponent of the withdrawal.
2011/2012 Tournament Season
· The 2011/2012 season will begin in September 2011 and continues through July 2012. We will use the month of August to form our Gran Prix state championship teams and practice and plan for the state championships.
· We also hope to conduct an activity (car wash, bake sale, etc.) in August 2012 to earn funds that will be used to reduce the costs for the players who compete in the Gran Prix state championships.
Sponsorship
· If you are interested in helping to sponsor our Gran Prix t-shirts for the 2012/2013 season, please contact Gordon Brynildsen at Gordon@gordonstennis.net or 979.846.8925.
