The Brazos Valley Tennis Association (BVTA) is a qualified community tennis association (CTA) with a mission to promote the growth and development of recreational and competitive tennis in the Brazos Valley. Qualified by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Texas Section, the BVTA had to meet a set of requirements set by the USTA Texas Section that included being designated an umbrella, certified non-profit community tennis association that represents the Brazos Valley; a CTA that utilizes its income and assets to accomplish the mission to grow the game of tennis in the Brazos Valley; an association that partners with the tennis professionals and coaches in the Brazos Valley; and serves in concert with other community groups to use tennis to enhance the quality of life throughout the Brazos Valley.
An umbrella CTA means that the BVTA delivers a full menu of programs and services to the entire Brazos Valley, regardless of age, gender, cultural, or socioeconomic background, physical ability, or skill level. Anyone, at any time, has the opportunity to try the game, learn the skills, play with friends or compete in match play.
Founded in 1987 as the Bryan-College Station Tennis Association, the association was renamed the Brazos Valley Tennis Association on January 1, 2009. The BVTA is a registered community tennis association with USTA, a registered non-profit corporation in the State of Texas, and a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization serving the entire Brazos Valley.
The BVTA currently hosts three Texas junior Zone Advancement Tournaments (ZAT), two championship major zone tournaments, two super championship major zone tournaments, USTA leagues for tennis players of all ages and levels, ladders for men and women of all ages and levels, monthly tournaments as part of the USPTA Gran Prix series for nonqualified juniors, local tennis programs, and other special events throughout the year.
As a community tennis association, the BVTA is making investments in the well-being of our Brazos Valley communities. That means many things, but to name just a few:
- Provide USTA and USPTA tennis programs to the community
- Build partnerships with area school tennis programs
- Provide scholarship and travel support to promising junior players for tennis competitions and training camps
- Sponsor a junior team each year to attend the Texas State Gran Prix Championships
- Provide funds to school tennis programs to improve their facilities
- Support the Texas A&M men’s and women’s tennis teams
- Provide information on tennis activities at local clubs and parks and recreation departments
- Coordinate and support tennis in the senior games
